Frequently asked questions
What is a blind flange used for?
A blind flange has no bore and closes the end of a pipeline, valve or vessel nozzle. It is used at line ends, for blanking during pressure tests and for lines that will be extended later.
Why is a blind flange heavier than other flanges?
It has no centre hole, so it contains more steel for the same diameter and thickness; in larger sizes it is also made thicker to withstand the pressure.
What is the difference between a blind flange, a cap and a plug?
A blind flange is a bolted closure that can be removed. A cap is welded permanently to the pipe end. A plug closes small threaded ends.
How much does a DN100 PN16 blind flange weigh?
About 5.6 kg (catalogue value). It has an outside diameter of 220 mm, a bolt circle of 180 mm and 8 holes for M16 bolts.
